Company Name: SOE IPlantE David Bates started his career in Engineering in 1981 with an Apprenticeship at Michelin Tyre Company in Stoke on Trent. On completion of his Apprenticeship he stayed with the company for a further 3 years. Working in the Maintenance of Heavy Plant and machinery. In 1988 he made his first Career move to Edwards and Jones of Meir, Stoke on Trent. The new position was that of Trouble shooting and Development Engineer. This company specialised in equipment for the Water Utilities. The job required considerable travelling both in Britain and abroad, which for a young lad in his mid 20s was a great adventure. In 1995 he along with 2 colleagues left to set up their own company EMS Industries Ltd. The company now employs 26 people in Stoke on Trent. His current position with the company is that of Engineering Director. David has an ONC in Mechanical and Production Engineering, Higher National in Plant Engineering and has many interests such as Wellington and the British Army in the Peninsular and at Waterloo, Steam Engines, Old Commercial Vehicles, Workshop Machinery, Cycling and Gardening. David is Chair of the IPlantE (Institution of Plant Engineers), a professional sector of SOE (Society of Operations Engineers). |
